Mahindra launched their product NuPro Virgin Kachchi Ghani Mustard Oil last year. Mustard Oil is a dominant and primary ingredient in Bengali cuisine and to celebrate this beautiful combination of Maa ke Haath ka Khana and Shorsher Tel, Mahindra NuPro organised the NuPro Mumma Chef competition to test the culinary skills of housewives across the city of Kolkata and I was invited to the Grand finale.
More than 50 housewives competed against each other for the coveted title of ‘NuPro Mumma Chef of the Year 2016’. All food items were cooked in Mahindra NuPro Kachchi Ghani Mustard Oil which has created a niche for itself post its launch in Kolkata last year. Each finalist were given 8 ingredients and 20 minutes to prepare a dish of their choice.
Scores were evaluated basis the taste, ingredients and food presentation. The finalists were judged by a panel of judges which included celebrity chef Sarmistha Dey and food-lovers Mohan Nair and Deboshree Chakraborty.
It was really interesting and inspiring to see housewives stepping out of their comfort zones and performing under the pressure of cooking in unfamiliar circumstances and limited ingredients. It was nothing short of a reality TV show, watching them select ingredients, plan, prepare, cook and present their dishes to the judges while adhering to the rules of the competition all at the same time.

To keep the environment stress free, the emcee was interacting with the audience throughout with trivia, quiz and other fun activities.
The winnerSikha Mukherjee was rewarded with a cash prize of Rs 20,000 and a NuPro gift hamper.
I think the Mahindra NuPro Mumma Chef Contest it is a great initiative by Mahindra because it is an amazing platform for home chefs to showcase their talent and I am looking forward to another happening NuPro Mumma Chef competition next year!
