Brand Speak –
“The iconic Lakmé Enrich Range is getting a fun addition, with an all-new format and design. The Enrich Lip Crayons bring back the same soft matte texture, with the convenience of a sharpenable crayon, making it easy to line and fill in your lips on the go.The lip crayons come in 10 vibrant colours, from shades of reds, pinks and browns, to soft nudes. These cute lip crayons will surely take you back to your childhood, as you add a dash of colour to your daily makeup.”
Seeing The Lakme Enrich Lip Crayon box set which was sent to me by Lakme brought a smile to my face because the box literally looked like a mini crayon box I would carry to school! I have five shades. The color palette of the entire range is very summer friendly
The lip crayons have a semi matte finish and are quite hydrating on the lips. The pigmentation however is weak on the lighter shades like Candid Coral, Cinnamon Brown and Red Stop which go on very streaky, patchy and translucent on the lips so more than one coat is required to achieve an opaque finish. The pigmentation gets better with the darker shades like Berry red and Shocking Pink and you don’t need to work very hard to get an even layer of color. These lip crayons do not last long on the lips at all. They transfer a lot and will only stay put for a couple of hours. Once you eat or drink you most of the pigment will have disappeared and you will have to reapply. These don’t stain the lips and you can simply wash off the pigment with your face wash and water without the help of a makeup remover. Some of the colors linke Candid coral and Red Stop tend to bleed out from the outline of the lip so you will have to be a bit careful and use a steady hand while applying these.
As far as the packaging is concerned, I feel that 0.07 oz for a product is too less even if it is priced as low as INR 185/- and given that its a sharpeneable crayon which does not twist up, more product will be wasted than used.
I have always had a love hate relationship with lip crayons – sharpenable and twist ups alike. While there is a lot of wasted product with Sharpenables crayons, you can get a nice and defined sharp tip with the help of a sharpener so your crayon doubles up as a lip liner as well, thus helping you achieve a clean and crisp lip outline. The advantage of a sharp tip is missing in the twist up crayon and you have to either purchase a new lip liner for each shade or apply it with a domed tip where the edges are blunt and the finishing isn’t crisp or even manually sharpen the tip on tissue paper which again leads to wastage . Lip crayons have their own pros and cons but keeping everything aside, I feel that for INR 185, this is a decent range with a number of shades to choose from and this range is ideal for those on a tight budget.
My personal favourite is Cinnamon Brown which is a very light brown nude-ish taupe shade with pink undertones and looks great with dark eyes or kohl lined eyes.
*Swatches are done on bare lips without any product such as lip balms, primers or moisturizers.
**My lips have purple undertones, so color output may vary from person to person with different undertones.
