Tata Medical Center initiates Dadar Shongey Dil Se Dijiye, a fundraiser.
With the popular game of cricket at the centre of the initiative, Tata Medical Center announced their fundraising activity, “Dada’r Shongey Dil Sey Deejiye”, in collaboration with Mr. Sourav Ganguly, to facilitate the phase-2 expansion of the critical oncology care unit for the hospital, at a press conference at Taj Bengal on April 6th, 2016. The initiative draws similarities between the game of cricket and the battle against cancer in order to drive home the message and inspire people to donate generously to the noble cause.
A Rs 350 crore not-for-profit facility, Tata Medical Center provides comprehensive cancer treatment and care in Kolkata. Set up by the Tata group, in May 2011, in response to the alarming increase in cancer cases in East India, almost half the number of beds in this hospital are reserved for the treatment of under-privileged patients. Tata Medical Center has treated more than 58,000 patients with more than 13,200 surgeries performed till date. With more than 53,000 patients coming out of Eastern India, Tata Medical Center stands as a beacon of hope for underprivileged patients.
I was happy to have attended the press conference, because this is truly an initiative with a heart. Being a Behala girl, I have more respect and admiration for Dada and was over excited to meet him. Just as I was about to ask him questions, I went completely blank, fumbled, told him I was a huge fan and then tried not to look insane while asking him a few questions. Those two minutes were very tough! Here is what he had to say to me –
Dil Sey Deejiye took shape three years ago when Croma, a Tata Group retail chain, became the first group company to start this initiative to help the underprivileged cancer patients. At that time, the initiative collected more than INR 50 Lakhs in the first year and INR 1 Crore in the next. Very soon, other Tata companies like Westside, Landmark, Vivanta by Taj and Gateway Hotels followed. Consequently, the initiative attracted the attention of well-known hoteliers and stores in Mumbai. Last year, Dil Sey Deejiye expanded to include TBZ chain of stores, Krishna Mehta, fine dining restaurants – Joss, Amadeus and Swati Snacks, a popular eatery in Mumbai, to name a few.
Taking a leap ahead, Dil Sey Deejiye travelled to Kolkata in September 2015 and received the support of almost 30 stores, Specialty Group – Mainland China, Sigree, Oh Calcutta; Global Kitchens, Astor Hotels, Kanishka Sarees, Mira Basu to name a few. Since then, this unique initiative has gained momentum with the tremendous response received from people who have encouraged Tata Medical Center to take this powerful fund-raising campaign far and wide.
Themed around cricket, this year’s fundraiser, to be held on 8th April, 2016 at Taj Bengal, will be an action packed night where celebrities including Ms. Usha Uthup, Mr. Angad Ranyal, Ms. Krishna Mehta and others will join hands to lend support to the cause. The tickets for the fundraiser are being auctioned through WhatsApp and Facebook, and the top 10 bidders will be presented with a limited edition canvas personally autographed by Mr. Sourav Ganguly.
The title sponsor of the fundraiser is Tata Consultancy Services, with Pepsico and Tata Steel as co-sponsors. The associate sponsors of the fundraiser are Senco Gold Ltd., Tata Capital, Tata Sky and Tata Motors. Rallis, Tata ClassEdge, Tata Metaliks Limited, Infinitypark and Titan are the Goodwill Donors for the cause. The event partners are Indigo Airlines, Taj Hotels, ABP, Krishna Mehta and Showbiz Cares.
